Permanent Hair Removal With Electrolysis
Electrolysis is the only method the FDA recognizes as permanent hair removal. A fine probe is placed into each hair follicle, and a small current destroys the growth center, so that hair cannot grow back. Because it works on the follicle itself, not on hair pigment, it works on every hair and skin color, including the light, red and gray hair that laser cannot treat. It is ideal for brows, upper lip and chin, and for clearing stray hairs after laser. Most areas need a series of short sessions over several months, because hairs grow in cycles.

Before and After Your Visit
- Waxing: let hair grow to about 1/4 inch (2 to 3 weeks of growth).
- Stop retinoids and exfoliating acids on the area for 3 to 5 days, and do not wax over sunburned or broken skin.
- Tell your provider if you take Accutane; waxing must wait 6 months after you finish it.
- After waxing: skip hot baths, saunas and tanning for 24 to 48 hours; exfoliate gently a few days later to prevent ingrown hairs.
- After electrolysis: mild redness or tiny scabs may appear; keep the area clean and avoid makeup on it for 24 hours.
